A small pad of sketch paper sat on the lap of a red-headed girl, a black dog lay next to her as she moved the pencil across the paper in a brush stroke. The sounds of the birds had calmed down her wary way after her encounter with Kyozen back at the ruins only an hour ago.
The canine had lifted his head when he noticed a couple of adults, walking towards a large Hummer of a car. Halie had noticed what he was watching before she went back to her sketching. Teachers. This school is going to be exactly like the last one, she thought before looking at her sketch-book again. Her pencil had fallen from her hand, landing on the ground in front of the canine.
The drawing consisted of the top-half of a woman, the long hair pulled back with a dark clip, her bangs falling to the sides like the sketcher's own. The woman, had a smile across her face, the eyes drawn with a warm feeling in them. A man stood behind her, a scowl on his face, angry eyes that seemed to glare through the lead to look at Halie. The man held a gun in his hands, at first glance, you could tell it was a .45.
After looking at the sketch she had made for a few moments, Halie tore the page out of her book, crumbling the paper into a ball, before she threw it out of her sight. The black canine just lifted his head, looked at his girl, then leaned against her.
